Phillip Coffey - Deepening Memories

By Phillip Coffey
My first taste of all Organic flavor - drinking sweet milk
Poured from a hanging Galvanized three gallon bucket
Squirted from a small herd of Guernseys into a container
After filtering the drippings from the sturdy barn loft.

All the hay, cats crawling across - searching for game, playing
On my deepening memories of my Father's strong hands
Removing steadily the flow of the liquid from the Bovines.
Loud ringing from the bottom - 'rich' cream, sugar-covered Cheerios.

Little background on "Deepening Memories ". I work at Green County Food Pantry on Thursday(s). There's a nice lady from 'oft' that works there. 'Alpha Lady'. I have, as most of us do I guess, allergy issues. She was telling me an allergy 'potion' she had concocted ('It is all organic'). When she got through with her sales pitch I said, "I have lines of a poem running through my head now that I am going to write about 'Organic'". So I did. - PC
