LWC Baseball falls on the road against No. 20 IU Southeast

By Brady Budke

New Albany, IN - For the third time this season, the Lindsey Wilson baseball team dropped a non-conference game against IU Southeast (IN). At the Koetter Sports Complex this afternoon, the No. 20 Grenadiers won by a final of 8-3 to successfully defend their home field. LWC falls to 17-19 with the loss while IUS jumps up to 29-13 with the win.

From the plate, the Blue Raiders notched a solid nine hits. Ty Menrath, Henry Paulino, and Jaden Cockerel all led the team with two hits apiece.

Brandon Wilson picked up the start and earned the loss from the bump, going six complete innings of work where he allowed 10 hits and seven earned runs while walking and striking out four. Jake McDaniel and Bailey Turner each pitched a complete inning in relief.

Lindsey Wilson fell behind early after allowing runs in the first and fourth innings to give IU Southeast a 2-0 lead. Menrath put the Blue Raiders on the scoreboard with an RBI double in the fifth, but the Grenadiers quickly matched that run in the bottom half of the inning.

In a costly turn of events, the IUS bats came alive as the team pushed across four runs in the sixth inning to build some comfortable breathing room. However, LWC caught a break and trimmed the deficit down to just four in the seventh inning after scoring two runs off a misplayed grounder by the Grenadiers.

Despite the late game heroics from Lindsey Wilson, IU Southeast kept its spot in the driver seat by scoring another run in the bottom half of the seventh and eventually holding the Blue Raiders scoreless the last two innings.

The Lindsey Wilson baseball team is set to return to action on the road Friday to begin its final regular season Mid-South Conference series against Bethel (Tenn.).
