LWC Women gearing up for Julie Costello Memorial Classic

The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team is set for action on Friday and Saturday at the Julie Costello Memorial Classic - presented by Barleycorn's. The classic will be played on the campus of Thomas More (KY) in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. The Blue Raiders will face strong competition over the two-day stay, battling No. 3-ranked Marian (IN) on Friday at 4pmCT before concluding action on Saturday at NoonCT against Saint Francis (IN).

No. 3 Marian (6-2, 2-0 CL) has garnered early season success despite being handed two losses. The Knights fell against No. 16 St. Francis (IL) 56-48 on Nov. 7 and against No. 14 Thomas More 64-61 on Nov. 15. More recently however, the squad won in blowout fashion over Grace (IN) on Nov. 24 by a final of 91-51.



MU has played stellar team defense this season, recording 114 total steals (14.3 per game) and 34 total blocks (4.3 per game), both of which sit high in the NAIA rankings. The Knights are allowing opponents to score only 55.8 points per game, with Thomas More having notched the opponent season-high at 64 points. On offense, Marian is averaging 75.5 PPG on 46 percent shooting from the field. Abby Downard leads the team at 12.9 points and 3.2 steals per contest.

As for Saint Francis (6-1, 0-0 CL), the Lady Cougars have also rolled out a strong start to the 2020-21 campaign under head coach Jason Ridge. USF's lone loss came against No. 16 St. Francis, who also took down Marian, in a close 48-47 meeting on Nov. 6. The Lady Cougars will face Thomas More on Friday before taking on Lindsey Wilson on Saturday.

Saint Francis also rolls out strong defense to the court, with the team allowing just 49 PPG to opponents through seven games. Oakland City (IN) managed the most points by an opponent of USF at 60. Opponents of the Lady Cougars this season have managed just a 32.1 percent field goal shooting average (119-of-370). On offense, Saint Francis averages 67.9 PPG on a strong 47 percent field goal shooting average. Cassidy Crawford leads the team averages in points (11.8) and rebounds (7.3) per contest.

For (RV) Lindsey Wilson (4-1, 1-1 MSC), the squad dropped its first contest of the season on Nov. 21 in a 71-70 overtime thriller against No. 14 Bethel (Tenn.) at Biggers Sports Center.

The Blue Raiders are led on offense by Reagan Turner, who is averaging 22 PPG on 52.9 percent shooting from the field. Turner is joined with a double-figure scoring average by Maleigha Oldham (11.8 PPG), Haeli Howard (10.3 PPG), and Hailey Ison (10.2 PPG). On the glass, the duo of Bree Glover and Rose Mary Jackson continue to lead the way, with Glover at a team-high 8.2 RPG while Jackson is at a seven per contest average. As a team, LWC is averaging 85 PPG on offense while allowing just 64.8 PPG in return to opponents.

Live video and live stats will be available during the classic. Lindsey Wilson will face Marian on Friday, Nov. 27 at 4pmCT, and Saint Francis on Saturday, Nov. 28 at noon CT.
