LWC Women's Swimming drops road matchup against Asbury

Wilmore, KY - The No. 9-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's swimming team dropped its season opening dual meet tonight on the road against No. 6-ranked Asbury (Ky.). The Blue Raiders fell 156-102 to the Eagles, handing LWC its first defeat of the season.

Lindsey Wilson swimmers claimed victory in six events on the night, while Asbury swimmers won with eight first place finishes.



For the Blue Raiders, Maaike Broersma was victorious in three individual races and one relay. The Freshman from The Netherlands picked up an A-cut finishing time in her 100-yard backstroke victory with a time of 57.49. In the 50-yard freestyle, Broersma touched the wall in the winning time of 24.64 for a B-cut. She picked up another B-cut in the 200-yard backstroke, winning the event with a time of 2:08.70.

Broersma teamed up with Savannah Schoeman, Annissa Koekemoer, & Carlene Taylor to corrall first place in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:43.38.

Alongside the excellence of Broersma, Allie Rutherford picked up two individual victories on the night for LWC. The Freshman from Rockport, Indiana claimed the top spot in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.43, & the 200-yard butterfly in a finishing time of 2:23.66.

Carlene Taylor contributed a third place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:01.41, which was good enough for a B-cut. Taylor went on to claim another B-cut in the 100-yard freestyle with a runner-up finishing time of 55.19.

The Lindsey Wilson swimming team will return to the pool on Saturday, Nov. 7 to face off against Campbellsville (Ky.) at the Holloway Center Natatorium beginning at noon.
