CMS students win at national Junior Beta convention By Calen McKinney Campbellsville Middle School students won big, once again, at this year's National Junior Beta convention, coming home with a national officer and national champion. Jacyln Jackson, who will be an eighth-grader this year, was elected to serve as the National Junior Beta president. Jackson was elected as the Kentucky Junior Beta vice president at the state convention in January, which qualified her to run for the national office. She is the third CMS student in school history to be elected to a national office, and the first to be elected as a state and national president. Brayden Judd, a rising seventh-grader, was named national champion in the speech contest. He placed fourth at the state convention, qualifying him to compete at the national level. As a club, the CMS Junior Beta Club placed seventh in the nation in the club trading pin category. Chloe Thompson, who will be a freshman at Campbellsville High School this year, served as the National Junior Beta vice president at this year's convention. Jackson will serve as Kentucky president at next year's state convention and national president at the national convention. This year's national convention was scheduled for June 19-22 in Fort Worth, Texas, but was ultimately canceled and hosted virtually. The next state convention will be Jan. 13-15 at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville. Next year's national convention is set for June 29-July 2 in Orlando, Fla. Beta sponsors are CMS teachers Paige Cook and Robbilyn Speer, iEagle teacher Katie Campbell and Campbellsville Elementary School teacher Farrah Hord. This story was posted on 2020-08-02 20:56:38
