CLC / Jim Blair Park now fully owned by County By Linda Waggener It was a hard choice for both City and County governments, but it's final. After mediation to settle disagreements, followed by unanimous voting by both Fiscal Court and City Council, Blair Park will be under full ownership and management of the County. Use of the Park reservation calls may be made to 270-384-4703. After purchase from the Columbia Baptist Church, the Christian Life Center/Blair Park and Recreation Center at 901 Hudson Street in Columbia had been owned 50-50 by the City and County. Over the years and different administrations, it has had many management struggles. There have been times when each entity carried the other as hard times came and went for both. When Judge Executive Gale Cowan asked for financial help from the City at the beginning of her administration, the Mayor and Council responded with an offer to take over the debt, ownership and management of Blair Park. The Judge Executive and Magistrates felt strongly that they wanted to continue with Blair Park ownership. City Attorney Derrick Helm and County Attorney Jennifer Hutchison-Corbin brought together Mayor Pam Hoots with council members June Parson and Ronald Rodgers, and Judge Executive Gale Cowan and Magistrates Daryl Flatt and Chris Reeder in mediation over the final decisions. The outcome was that the Adair County Fiscal Court will take ownership, debt and management of Blair Park going forward. It is hoped by all parties that this will work well for both City and County and that both can continue to grow the park opportunities for the citizens of Columbia-Adair County.
