LWC Cycling finishes No. 7 in National Rankings By Chris A. Coombs The Lindsey Wilson cycling team finished the season with a No. 7 overall ranking in the 2019-20 USA Cycling National Collegiate Varsity Rankings, despite the COVID-19 shortened season. The Blue Raiders racked up points in the three disciplines they competed in at the national championships. LWC scored 46 points in Track as well as Cross Country and 49 points in Mountain Bike to total 141 points. Due to the shortened season, the Blue Raiders were unable to compete in their best discipline, BMX as well as ROAD. "We competed at Track Nationals in September, a return for the program after being absent for the last few years," Head Coach Josh Patton said. "We had a great effort in the Team Sprint placing ninth as Luis Rivera also performed well throughout the weekend to show me promising growth in the discipline over the next few years." "At the Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships we had three podiums in the Dual Slalom with Dustin Hammond, Angelo Loskota and Elida Beeman all helping to dramatically increase our overall team score," Patton said. "With our endurance field stronger this year I am excited to see what happens and expect to see the team on the podium next season." Colorado Mesa took first place in the national poll with 232 points as Marian (Ind.) claimed second with 196 points and Fort Lewis (Colo.) managed 193 points to sit in third. "As we build the team and get riders in a variety of fields I expect LWC to keep rising in the national rankings," Patton said. "We will be working hard over the next season to keep growing as a team and going after some impressive results." This story was posted on 2020-07-07 14:06:30
