Letter: Good to have Recycling Center open

Comments re: Letter: Recycle Center reopening, questions

By William R. Feese

It is good to have our recycling center open again.

Thank you Debbie Nobles for the well written letter to Columbia Magazine about Recycling. I too am an avid recycler (have been for decades).

Thank you Linda Waggener for your vision also. Like everything else if we all do a little it will make a difference.

It concerns me about all the recyclable Styrofoam and glass going into the ground.

Some European nations recycle 90% of their glass. The United States recycles only 33% of its glass because of government policy, consumer education and habits.

Styrofoam can sit in a landfill for centuries. There are now 8 bins in the U.S. provided by Dart Container Corporation to collect #6 Styrofoam.

The good news is one of those bins is in Kentucky near horse Cave and Mammoth Cave National Park (closed now because of the virus).

Again, it's good to have our recycling center open. --William R. Feese
