Adair County's Good Health Is Focus Of Annual Fair At Wrh This article first appeared in issue 26, and was written by Staff. New attractions will be featured at the Westlake Regional Hospital Health Fair to be held October 2. The main feature of the 18th annual event again will be the discounted laboratory health screenings, in which 1,671 participated last year. Results from the pre-health fair lab screenings, September 21 - 28, can be picked up inside the hospital on the day of the health fair where health professionals will be on hand to explain results. Also inside the hospital again will be dozens of booths set up to distribute information and services to fair-goers. New this year will be a lecture series featuring "Caretalkers", a speaker's bureau made up of Westlake doctors, nurses and other professionals formed recently to provide public education on a variety of health care topics. Free child safety seat checks will be offered by Drivesmart and the Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement Division. Those will be held in the parking lot of the Adair County Health Department, just a few hundred feet from the hospital. In addition to the always-popular Westlake Beauty Pageant, the Classic Car Display, Kidland and other crowd pleasers, organizers are planning to have tethered balloon rides if weather permits. In anticipation of a largest-ever turnout, more parking will be available this year than last. The theme of this year's fair - "Better Together" - was chosen to stress unity among Westlake's facilities and between Westlake and the communities it serves. Westlake also runs facilities in Casey and Metcalfe counties where the hospital will stage two other health fairs this fall. For more information call 384-4753.
