Kentucky Color: Visit for a Spell

By Billy Joe Fudge

Looking up West Guardian
To its intersection with High,
I see the way things are,
But think of days gone by.

It warms my heart to stroll
Down pathways back in time,
To visit the West Guardian
Still standing in my mind.

I know I can't live there;
I can only visit for a spell.
I've tried to stay before
But quickly tripped and fell.

So now I resign to only
Wandering around a mite;
To maybe see a friend or two,
Or a familiar sight.

But I quickly pack my bags,
Follow the light back to home,
And use the past so firm
To build the future upon.
