Go vote - poll open at Courthouse Annex From Representative Amy Neighbors America was founded to give all citizens of the nation a voice in the political process. The founders rallied behind the demand of "No taxation without representation" and fought to establish a nation where the voice of the people was paramount. Though our founders disagreed on many aspects of their future nation, one facet of our political system was agreed to by all, in one form or another, and this was the right to vote for those who govern us. Primary elections (voting underway now) will be held on May 21 - voters need to understand the election process, the intent of these elections, and how to learn more about those competing for their party's nomination. Unlike general elections, primary elections require voters to be registered members of the party they are voting for. This means Republicans vote between Republican candidates, and Democrats vote for Democratic candidates. May is Better Hearing and Speech month With approximately 700,000 Kentuckians of all ages experiencing some degree of hearing loss, Gov. Andy Beshear and the Kentucky Commission on the Deaf and Hard of Hearing are encouraging people to learn the signs of hearing loss and to seek care during Better Hearing and Speech Month in May. "Thousands of Kentuckians of all ages are affected by hearing loss, but many do not recognize the signs because it often happens gradually over time from aging, ongoing exposure to loud noises or a variety of other reasons," said Gov. Letter: Theft of pets continues By Ann Pearson This is the third time a pet has been stolen right out of our fenced-in yard. First they stole my male Bull Mastiff, then our chihuahua, and now our mini chi-weenie. It's insane that we keep our dogs in a fence and someone steals them and for what purpose? To sell is our best guess. Now even when we are home we must keep our pets inside unless we are outside with them. Pictures of our pet are provided. If you see or have someone offer to sell you a pet please make sure they own that dog or say something like "let me check with the police just to make sure it's not one they are looking for," as they will probably leave quickly. My daughter is just devastated her beloved pets are gone as am I with my Mastiff being gone. I don't understand why someone would do this to someone. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Note: If you have any information about these missing dogs, you can reach Ann at 270-283-2136. Carol Perkins: Matters of the Heart Previous Column: The Tiller By Carol Perkins Since his heart attack, Guy has had rounds of mild chest pains. That's his version, but if they require a nitroglycerin tablet, they aren't too mild. "You can't fool around with this," I declare. "It'll go away," he answers while I'm finding the nitro pills. "I go to the doctor next week." I sigh. The doctor is his cardiologist in Louisville. There is not much I can do with a grown man who refuses to make another trip to the ER, has had dozens of tests, and was told to see his cardiologist where he had even more tests within the last two months. Once in front of the Louisville doctor, Guy played down his "mild" chest pains.
