CPD: Meth arrest

Columbia Police Department

On Thursday morning, March 23, 2023, officers with the Columbia Police Department were dispatched to a residence on Oak Street, where caller had stated a female was repeatedly knocking on the door and walking around property.

Contact with female was made as she was walking on Oak Street. The female gave officers her name and it was found she had an outstanding warrant from Pulaski County. Subject was also found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine, and was taken into custody.

Off the dining table to the awaiting floor, they must not fall.
Cooing dove descending - swooshing from near Mount Arafat -
Waring machine into her beating breast.

Lofie Gosser McFarland Stubbs, 92, Russell County, KY

Lofie Gosser McFarland Stubbs, age 92, of Russell Springs, KY passed away Thursday, March 23 2023. She was born on Tuesday, January 27 1931, in Russell Springs, Kentucky.

She was a a homemaker, Russell Sportswear employee, dairy farmer and a faithful member of Pine Grove United Baptist Church where she attended until her health failed. She was the daughter of Eva Gosser Chumbley and James Joshua Gosser, who preceded her in death.

Heather Marshall Victorio, 42, Green County, KY (1980-2023)

Heather Marshall Victorio was born June 7, 1980, in Green County, Kentucky to the late John Henry Groves, Jr. and Rhonda McDonald. She departed this life Tuesday, March 14, 2023, in Columbia, KY, having attained the age of forty-two years, nine months and seven days.

Heather was a loving mother and wife. She loved to cook, travel, crochet and crafting. She owned her own business in candle making, hairbows and wreaths.

ACSO: Suspect identified

We would like to thank everyone once again for all their calls in helping us ID a suspect in a property crime case we are working. Calls immediately started coming in after the media outlets posted the picture on our behalf. We were able to identify the suspect within 24 hrs.

Allen Dwayne Thompson, 71, Casey County, KY (1951-2023)

Allen Dwayne Thompson, age 71, passed away peacefully at his home in Liberty, KY on Monday, March 20, 2023.

Born Sunday, June 24, 1951, in Casey County, KY, he was a son of the late Alfred and Betty Lee Thompson. Allen graduated from Campbellsville College with a degree in business education. He was employed by the Department of Social Insurance in Liberty, KY, where he later became supervisor until retirement. Allen lived a life of quiet servitude as a troop leader of a local Boy Scout Troop. He was also an elder at West Side Christian Church. Allen loved and served his family, his Church, and most importantly, his Savior all his days on this Earth.

31 New law enforcement officers in DOCJT Class 536

Richmond, KY - On March 24, 2023, Gov. Andy Beshear announced that 31 law enforcement officers from agencies across the state have graduated the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training's (DOCJT) basic training academy. These law enforcement officers will now serve and protect the commonwealth to create safer communities.

Among the graduates in Class 536 is Anthony S. Rayburn with the Edmonton Police Department.

Opinion: County Budget Problems

I understand that we have problems with the county budget. The rest of us have to tighten our belt and not travel as much, not eat out as often, adjust our thermostats, turn off unwanted lights, etc. The county should do the same.

When you're top heavy you take the weight off the top and not the bottom. First of all you shouldn't put the burden on taxpayers who for the most part are already seeing higher fuel, utility, extra taxes and higher mortgage payments. A lot of these people are either going from paycheck to paycheck or retired and either have a fixed income or are unable to find more income from an already stressed/stretched budget.

KELC releases February 2023 Unemployment Report

Frankfort, KY - Kentucky's seasonally adjusted preliminary February 2023 unemployment rate was 3.9%, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics (KYSTATS), an agency within the Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet (KELC).

The preliminary February 2023 jobless rate was unchanged from January 2023 and unchanged from the 3.9% recorded for the state one year ago.

The U.S. seasonally adjusted jobless rate for February 2023 was 3.6%, which was up 0.2 percentage points from January 2023, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
