Letter: Pick your battles

Mary Bardin writes:
I agree with James Roberts. I think this decision was out of respect for someone who served our county. There are much more for our county to worry about. I don't see any of the people that are nagging say anything about the homeless children or the fact that Adair County has such a high number of child abuse cases that go unnoticed, nor the amount of drugs brought into this county. Yes James the flag at half mast has been done for our local celebrities out of respect.

I see a lot of good changes being made for our county. Let's focus on real issues and concerns. As the saying goes, "Pick your battles." This issue is not one of them.

Letter: Flag issues

David Parrish writes:
I don't think that this issue is a question of politics. It is an issue of respect and understanding what civics taught about respecting the flag. If it happened in the past and the question was not asked if it is appropriate, then it is about not knowing the difference.

Are there other ways to honor the legacy of those citizens that have contributed to this area without usurping the legitimate authority of the President of the United States and the Governor of the State to make that decision to honor? I have heard of proclamations. I am sure other available options are there as well.
