Carol Perkins: The Wind and the Window Previous Column: Fried Chicken Blues By Carol Perkins Before we left for what I call our "Covid" cruise, I pushed my patio furniture against the back wall of the porch under the roof. I hadn't moved any of it when the rain came that caught me in its path. I took my coffee to my favorite wicker rocking chair under the porch and thought about the day. What I was going to do, that sort of thing. When the sprinkles began, I didn't go inside but enjoyed watching as it grew a little steadier, bouncing off my flowers. I took pictures and sent to my granddaughter to rub in the fact we had rain and they had had nothing but drought for two months. As I continued to snap pictures, the rain fell more rapidly and harder. I backed my chair under the roof, but still had no room to escape the blowing rain. Guy opened the patio door, "Don't you think you need to come inside?" I looked at my dilemma. "I can't get through the furniture." He laughed as the rain soaked me. In seconds, the rain and wind joined forces. I knew I was in trouble when the hail hit the deck. Donald Dell Durrett, 81, Green County, KY (1941-2022) Donald Dell "Duck" Durrett of Summersville, Kentucky, son of the late Jack D. Durrett and Ida Oakley Milby Durrett, was born on Tuesday, May 20, 1941 in Green County, Kentucky and departed to his heavenly home on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at his home. He was 81 years, 2 months, and 20 days of age. He had made a profession of faith in Christ and attended the Liberty Missionary Baptist Church in the Allendale Community. He was retired from General Electric after 42 years of service. After retirement he worked part-time for Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home. He was also a veteran having served in the United States Army. I groped for the phone, disoriented by the vague fear that comes automatically with a late night alarm bell, face distorted from having fallen asleep on page 186 of Cathie Pelletier's Beaming Sonny Home where Mattie's son, Sonny, is releasing the poodle he'd taken hostage. Stumbling over the coffee table during the second ring reminded me I'd been on the couch instead of in my bed because, at the normal ten-thirty-or-eleven going-to-bed time, I'd been wide awake and achy from the extreme heat and humidity of Saturday, August 11. Time Capsule thief arrested in Greensburg By Larry J Smith A Greensburg man was arrested after digging up the 2004 time capsule that had been buried on the old courthouse lawn. Greensburg Police Chief Wayne Hedgespeth said that Danny Richards was observed Sunday night, August 7, 2022 carrying what a appeared to be a large rock in downtown Greensburg. After investigating, officers with Greensburg Police Department discovered that the object was not a rock, it was the time capsule that had been buried in 2004 on the historic courthouse lawn.
