Letter: Robert Gilbert ring - Grissom High School

Sena M. Schaefer writes:
The request about the lost ring belonging to Robert Gilbert was interesting. This ring may be a commemorative ring given to football players after a winning season. Grissom High School may be the school in Huntsville, Al, with the formal name of Virgil Grissom High School, but is actually more well known as Grissom High School.

Research through Ancestry.com shows there was a football player on the Grissom team named Robert Gilbert , born about 1974 or 1975, who could possibly be the owner of this ring. I didn't have time to do any further research on the young man, but he seems in the correct age group to have played there in the late 1980's and early 1990's. Pictures of the football team list his name as one of the players. I hope this helps. --Sena

Downtown Days, 2021: that's a wrap

The City of Columbia Renaissance Committee completed the 2021 Downtown Days festival Saturday evening with a good crowd in attendance at the country music performance.

Mother Nature provided perfect weather with sunshine and temperatures in the 70s and 80s for both days of events starting with food court openings on Friday afternoon and booths selling all kinds of items just in time for the holidays.

The new stage took much less time to set up which meant the Public Square parking and traffic was able to continue for more hours than in past, an important consideration for downtown businesses. The only thing that might have made things better would have been if gas hadn't topped $3 per gallon.

Keepsake photos are being added to this story. If you have a favorite to add, just text it to 270-403-0017.
