MSC Softball Tournament continues with quartet of games Thurs

By Joel Snyder

The road to the NAIA National Tournament goes through Columbia this weekend. Two automatic bids to the season-ending tournament await, as well as the right to named Mid-South Conference Tournament champions. The eleven-team field was cut in half last week thanks to the madness that was the opening round. Now, the final six teams prepare to enter the double-elimination portion of the tournament.

Five-time conference tournament champion and top-seeded Campbellsville (KY) enters the weekend with a week-and-a-half of rest under its belt. Despite sharing the regular-season crown with Lindsey Wilson, the Tigers (37-11, 27-5 MSC) garnered the number one seed behind a better record against a common opponent.

Campbellsville will take to the field at 4pmCT where they will open their tournament play against the winner of the day's first game between fourth-seeded Bethel (TN) and fifth-seeded Georgetown (KY).

Columbia's own Lindsey Wilson (37-7, 27-5 MSC) continues its tournament title defense after sweeping Pikeville (KY) during last week's opening round.

RETAIN to help newly injured, ill workers to remain on the job

By Crystal Staley/Sebastian Kitchen

Frankfort, KY - Gov. Andy Beshear and Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman announced today the state has received a $21.6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to boost efforts to help newly injured and ill employees remain at or return to work.

"We know that maintaining work is so important," said Gov. Beshear. "When people leave Kentucky's workforce because they become sick or have an injury, it can be detrimental - not only to them, but to their families, employers and Kentucky's economy."

The Retaining Employment and Talent after Injury/Illness Network (RETAIN) Phase 2 funding is the largest federal grant awarded to date to the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet's Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR).

Kentucky, Kansas, Minnesota, Ohio and Vermont were awarded a total of $103 million in the Phase 2 program expansion. In 2018, Kentucky received $3.5 million and was one of eight selected for the Phase 1 pilot program.

No. I would not, could not go there.

Re: Would you go?

The answer to the question - would you go - out on that glass bottomed overhang at the Grand Canyon is, No. I would not, could not go out on that! Not even if they did allow cameras, not even for the greatest picture of a lifetime!

I've so enjoyed the road trip west story and pictures by Adair County's traveling photographers Robert Ellis and William Lamkin.

The breathtaking picture of the skywalk is close enough for me. Thanks for sharing the journey! - Linda Waggener

By Joel Snyder

The Lindsey Wilson football team has lived by three words since the start of this season, "Make A Way." It's a saying that has flooded social media and has inspired a community to rally around its football team.

Now, through all the uncertainty and question marks surrounding this season, there is one final game to be played.

The Blue Raiders, for the first time in program history, venture down to Louisiana to compete for an NAIA National Championship on Monday, May 10, 2021. The national title game, against the Northwestern Red Raiders, is scheduled for 6pmCT at Eddie G. Robinson Stadium on the campus of Grambling State University in Grambling, Louisiana.

LCDHD COVID-19 Public Information Brief 5/5/2021

By Amy Tomlinson
Lake Cumberland District Health Department

Today we report the most new cases since early March, 52. We will be watching with great curiosity the numbers over the next few days. Today is a reminder, though, that the pandemic is not over, and that our citizens need to take the vaccine.

We added several more cases today than for the same time period last week, so our 7-day average incidence rate per 100,000 went up significantly. Our 7-day average incidence chart is now showing 0 counties in the "green-on-track" range; 5 counties in the "yellow-community-spread" category, Clinton, Cumberland, Green, McCreary, and Wayne; and 5 counties in the "orange-accelerated" range of community-spread: Adair, Casey, Pulaski, Russell, and Taylor.

We are thankful to not have any "red-critical" counties now. Keep in mind, some of our 7-day-incidence data will be skewed over the next few days as we are reconciling our data against the state data.

Statewide Testing Positivity Rate: 3.57%.
