LWC baseball travels to William Carey for three-game series

The Lindsey Wilson baseball team travels to Hattiesburg, Mississippi for a three-game series against No. 6-ranked William Carey (Miss.) this Thursday and Friday at Milton Wheeler Field, County Dr., Hattiesburg, MS.

The series was originally scheduled for Friday and Saturday, however projected inclement weather in the Hattiesburg area caused the series to be moved up a day. Thursday is a doubleheader scheduled for 3pmCT. Friday's finale is scheduled for 12pmCT.

Lindsey Wilson (2-1) opened its season at the Louisiana Shreveport Invitational on Feb. 2-3. The Blue Raiders won game one against LSU-Alexandria 4-0. Reigning Mid-South Conference Pitcher of the Week Ricky Winfield pitched seven scoreless innings, giving up just four hits and striking out six. Oswaldo Calderon recorded three hits and drove in two runs.

The Blue Raiders dropped the second game against host LSU-Shreveport 9-3. The Pilots racked up 13 hits in the game while Lindsey Wilson only recorded three hits and committed three errors. Oliver Baez and Manny Chavarria each drove in a run.

Lindsey Wilson concluded the invitational on Feb. 3 with an 8-1 win against No. 16-ranked Tabor (Kan.). Tyler Russell threw five scoreless innings while striking out five and allowing just three hits to pick up the win. The Blue Raiders outhit Tabor 11-6 with Seth Price leading the way with three hits and driving in two runs.

The Crusaders (3-0) opened up their season Feb. 2-3. William Carey picked up two victories against Georgetown 4-3, 6-0 and a 2-1 victory over Ave Maria (Fla.). Last season the Crusaiders finished with a 45-20 overall record including a 17-7 record in the Southern States Athletic Conference and reached the NAIA World Series.

Lindsey Wilson leads the series against William Carey 5-3 all-time. The two teams met last season for a three-game matchup. Lindsey Wilson won the first game 6-4 before dropping the next two 3-2, 10-6.
