Sadly, I did not make it by to pay my respects to Billy's family and friends. Billy was a very special individual. I suppose we could say that about most folks but he had always been a great friend of my family.
After Dad reached the point of not being able to do many things he had always done, Billy was always there for him and Mom. He would often bring them firewood and not even take any money for it. Of course, Mom would always whip up something in the kitchen to return the favor, so to speak.
During my early days as the Adair County Forest Ranger, I always enjoyed setting on the front porch with Billy's father while making public relation contacts in the area. Looking out over upper Crocus Creek, up the Dug Hill Creek Bluff and up the Powell's Creek Hollow is a joy I carry in my heart.
I often share with others the need to slow down and enjoy the journey of life. The importance of relationships is so very important to our sense of well being and the happiness we all seek. It is important to remember that, "life is not a means to an end but the foundation upon which we build tomorrow." --
