Mary Helen Montgomery, 96, Adair County, KY (1922-2018)

She and her husband James L. Montgomery operated the Montgomery Grocery for 20 years and she worked at the Adair County School System for 11 years. She was a member of the Columbia Christian Church.

Mary Helen Montgomery, 96, of Columbia, KY passed away Monday, October 8, 2018 at 9:45pmCT at TJ Health Columbia.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 14, 2018 at 2pmCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with Clergy officiating Bro. Terry White. Interment will follow in the Haven Hill Cemetery. The family requests visitation after 3pmCT Saturday at the funeral home.



She was born near Columbia, KY on January 8, 1922, the daughter of the late Irvin and Cora Whitlock Keltner. She was preceded in death by all of her 12 siblings and by her husband, James L. Montgomery, in February 2008.

She is survived by
  • One daughter - Marsha Godsey and husband Larry of Columbia, KY

  • One son - Kenneth Montgomery and wife Pam of Columbia, KY

  • Four grandchildren - Michael Godsey, Brent Godsey, Jennifer Montgomery, and Brian Montgomery

  • Seven great grandchildren

  • Several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends
She was a member of the Columbia Christian Church.

Mrs. Montgomery along with her husband operated the Montgomery Grocery for 20 years and worked at the Adair County School System for 11 years.

Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, is in charge of arrangements.
