Seven honored for a Lifetime Commitment at LWC Homecoming

By Venus Popplewell, LWC Director of Public Relations

LWC celebrated its 87th homecoming this weekend. Dubbed "Come Home to the Hill," the celebration included the LWC National Alumni Association awards ceremony and Athletic Hall of Fame inductions. The weekend also included several reunions, a fireworks show and pep rally, and the crowning of the 2018 homecoming king and queen at halftime of the Blue Raider football game.

Lindsey Wilson College Director of Alumni Relations Hannah Peck has early memories of growing up on the hill of LWC.

"Lindsey has been an integral part of my life since I was a young girl. Some of my earliest memories are found here on the hill," said Peck at the college's 2018 homecoming awards luncheon on Saturday. "...and now here I am today, all these years later, surrounded by people who know exactly what it means to be a part of the LWC family."

At the Alumni Awards & Athletic Hall of Fame Celebration held on Saturday morning in the Roberta D. Cranmer Dining & Conference Center, two alumni and one longtime friend of the college were inducted into the LWC Athletic Hall of Fame and four individuals were honored by the LWC National Alumni Association.

The new members inducted into the 18th class of the LWC Athletic Hall of Fame were former coaches Mike Talley '91 from Columbia, Ky., for baseball and Paul Peck '75 from Columbia, Ky., for men's basketball. Longtime LWC supporter Henry Baughman from Stanford, Ky., received the Athletic Achievement and Philanthropist Award.

  • Columbia, Ky., native Andy Mann '08 of Nashville, Tenn., received the Outstanding Young Alumnus Award
  • John Howery of Columbia, Ky., received the Honorary Alumnus Award.

"When I look at our honorees today I can't help but to think of their longevity. The sustained relationship they've had for decades at this great college," said William T. Luckey Jr. who just celebrated 20 years as president of LWC. "Congratulations to each of our honorees and thank you for a lifetime commitment to Lindsey Wilson College."
