Bam Carney is a 2018 Friend of Kentucky Cities

By Michele Hill

Frankfort, KY - The Kentucky League of Cities (KLC) bestowed a 2018 "Friend of Kentucky Cities" award on Representative John "Bam" Carney (R-Campbellsville) at the Capitol Annex in Frankfort. Representative Carney sponsored House Bill 424, a KLC initiative that returned local representatives to the 911 Services Board.

KLC Deputy Executive Director J.D. Chaney praised Representative Carney for his tireless effort to secure passage of the bill. "House Bill 424 epitomizes what we mean when we say local control. It ensures local elected officials are once again taking a key role in the governance of the agency that oversees the local government funds used to support emergency call centers throughout the state. We thank Representative Carney for his commitment to getting this legislation passed in the 2018 session."

"KLC believes local decisions are best made at the local level," stated KLC Executive Director/CEO Jonathan Steiner. "It is one of the founding principles of our organization. We are proud to present Representative Carney with this award for standing up for home rule."

"I thank the League for this recognition and appreciate the opportunity to ensure the 911 Services Board includes the input of local elected officials," said Representative Carney. "I appreciate how important it is that we have safe cities and that citizens have confidence in their local 911 system, and I look forward to working with KLC again in the 2019 session to continue to improve the security of the local communities in my district."

Founded in 1927, the Kentucky League of Cities is a membership association of more than 370 cities across the commonwealth. KLC awards the "Friend of Kentucky Cities" award to legislators who perform outstanding work advocating for issues that impact cities across the state.
