By Venus Popplewell, LWC Director of Public Relations

COLUMBIA, KY. -- Five alumni and two longtime friends will be honored during Lindsey Wilson College's 87th homecoming celebration, Oct. 4-7. The awards luncheon will be held at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday, Oct. 6 in the Roberta D. Cranmer Dining & Conference Center, 430 Helen Flatt Drive.

The event-packed weekend dubbed "Come Home To The Hill" will also feature several reunions, including a reunion of the Bonner Scholars program, a baseball and softball reunion and game, and an induction ceremony for members of the class of 1968 or earlier who have not attended their 50 year reunion.

This will be the first homecoming celebration coordinated by LWC Director of Alumni Relations Hannah Peck '12 since taking over the program in February.

"Homecoming has been one of my favorite times of the year for the past 10 years - both as a student and an employee," said Peck. "Throughout the weekend relationships with alumni, students, faculty, staff and the community will be on full display, further confirming the notion that LWC truly is family. I'm honored to have a role in bringing people from across the globe together to reflect, reminisce and enjoy a wonderful weekend."

At the Alumni Awards and Athletic Hall of Fame Celebration on Saturday, Oct. 6, in Roberta D. Cranmer Dining & Conference Center, the Lindsey Wilson National Alumni Association will honor four individuals:

Ann Grant '75 Martin of Columbia, Ky., will receive the Distinguished Alumna Award;

Dan Antle '71 of Columbia, Ky., will receive the Distinguished Service Award;

Columbia, Ky., native Andy Mann '08 of Nashville, Tenn., will receive the Outstanding Young Alumnus Award;

John Howery of Columbia, Ky., will receive the Honorary Alumnus Award.

The new members of the LWC Athletic Hall of Fame are: former coaches Mike Talley '91 from Columbia, Ky., for baseball and Paul Peck '75 from Columbia, Ky., for men's basketball. Longtime LWC supporter Henry Baughman from Stanford, Ky., will receive the Athletic Achievement and Philanthropist Award.

"Homecoming is always such a special time on the hill, because in addition to bringing alumni back to campus, the weekend is a reminder of the strong relationship between Lindsey Wilson College and Columbia-Adair County," said Lindsey Wilson President William T. Luckey Jr. "This is a great college because of loyal alumni and because we have such a supportive local community."

The Alumni & Friends Homecoming 5K will be held on Saturday morning, Oct 6, at the Doris and Bob Holloway Health & Wellness Center, 399 Williams St. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. CT, and the race starts at 8 a.m. CT.

Other community-oriented activities include volunteer opportunities with the LWC Campus Kitchen on Friday, Oct. 5 beginning 6 p.m. CT and Saturday, Oct. 6 beginning at 2 and 4pmCT. The second-annual Alumni Day of Service gets under way on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. CT

LWC men's soccer takes on Georgetown College at 7 p.m. CT on Friday, Oct. 5 at Walter S. Reuling Stadium and an encore performance of the TheatreFest! 2018 Summer Series production of Smoke on the Mountain takes the stage for a final time. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. CT on Saturday Oct. 6 in the V.P. Henry Auditorium.

The crowning of the 2018 LWC homecoming king and queen will be held at halftime of the football game between LWC and Cincinnati Christian University at Blue Raider Stadium, Lindsey Wilson Sports Park, 820 Hanley Lane. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CT.
