Columbia Council sets tax rate, OKs sidewalk contract

The Columbia City Council met Wednesday, Sepember 12, 2018, for a second reading of the ordinance setting the tax rate for 2018, and to award a contract for sidework on Greensburg Street. Mayor Curtis Hardwick presided.


The action in more detail:
  1. Set the tax rate for the 2018 for the City of Columbia, KY to be levied and collected with tax bills which city property owners will receive around the first of October, 2018. The city approved a compensating rate, designed to keep the tax bill the same as the previous year, but will generate additional taxes from property added in in 2018. After a second reading by City Attorney Dustin Warren, the council voted unanimously, in a voice vote, to approve, on a motion by Council Member Ronald Rogers with a second by Member Pam Hoots, and Craig Dean, Linda Waggener, Craig Lasley, and Mark Harris affirming unanimously in a voice vote.

  2. In a second action, the council voted to approved the only bid received for sidewalk improvements on Greensburg Street including a pedestrian crossing at Greensburg & Dillon Streets. The awarding of the bid to Mid-State Ready Mix was approved by a unanimous voice vote on a motion by Council Member Pam Hoots with a second by Council Member Linda Waggener, with Members Craig Dean, Craig Lasley, Ronald Rogers, and Mark Harris, affirming in a voice vote.
The meeting was brief; adjournment came just seven minutes after it was called to order, at 5:07pmCT.

Also present, in addition to the full council and Mayor Hardwick, and City Attorney Dustin Warren were City Clerk Rhonda Loy and representatives of the media.

City Council okays compensating tax rate, sidewalk work

All six Columbia City Council Members listened as City Attorney Dustin Warren read Ordinance 220.174 in a special called meeting Wednesday, September 12, 2018 to set the tax rate for the year. The motion to choose the recommended compensating tax rate, was approved on a motion by Dr. Ronald Rogers and a second by Pamela Hoots with a unanimous voice vote. The Council also approved sidewalk improvements to begin on Greensburg Street after having selected the bid from Mike Mitchum of Mid State Ready Mix on a motion by Dr. Rogers with a second by Linda Waggener and a unanimous voice vote. Sidewalk reconstruction project ready to begin

The Columbia City Council approved the bid from Mike Mitchum's Mid State Ready Mix, Columbia, KY on a motion made by Dr. Ronald Rogers with a second by Linda Waggener followed by a unanimous voice vote. The motion stipulated that the concrete must meet all requirements through each quality test performed. The sidewalk above shows needed improvement areas located at the corner of Greensburg and Dillon Streets. Work is ready to begin immediately. - EW
