CJE was back to full speed following heat incident at forum

Judge Stephens fell while standing in the heat at the forum, which came at the end of a frenetic - even for him - day. He wants everyone to know he's okay and back on the job - and sends thanks for all the concern and prayers everyone has given on his behalf.

By Ed Waggener

Adair County Judge Executive Michael Lee Stephens is back to full speed today following a heat induced incident at the public forum he organized to address the safety issues at the 'Bypass & Burkesville' intersection problems.

He was reached at his office at 8:37amCT this morning. He said that he was driven from the event to his home, rested awhile, then he and Anita went to the Black Stallion Steakhouse for dinner. "I took a lot of kidding," he said. "Curtis (Mayor Curtis Hardwick) was there and he was pretty hard on me," he said.

Judge Stephens said that from what he heard about the forum, he was more than pleased, and commended Rep. Bam Carney for his "Good Sense," approach.

He was especially thankful for the statistics and suggestions delivered by Columbia Fire Chief Mike Glasgow and others who related real experiences with the road and its design problems from the beginning of its history.

"I think we'll get something done - quickly," he said. "And with local input, we should make real progress."
