Day Trip: Cumming & Lawhorn went west, right into SW festival Written after reading: Comments re article 99057 Day Trip visits to Metcalfe Barren Hart Green Counties KY Robert Cumming responds with his own special Day Trip: This past Saturday my friend Steve Lawhorn closed his Russell Springs Ford shop at noon and invited me along for a day trip west to Sams Club in Bowling Green. Now everbody that's been there knows Sams on a Saturday is full of shoppers, especially in the grocery aisles enjoying the free food samples. With industrial pallet racks stocked full of exotic food selections (all be it in larger quantities), Sams is a foodies paradise. With the trunk full from Sams heading home, we decided to exit the Cumberland Parkway at Edmonton and go by Sulphur Well. While driving east along Hwy 68 we noticed the recent right of way road construction improvements. Suddenly after rounding a curve, without a clue, we drove right into the middle of the annual Third Week of August community festival happening in Sulphur Well. After a deluge of rain earlier in the day, by 3 o'cloock the sun was out and the festival was going on literally full steam in the 85 degree heat! With the ground soaked and nearby creek nearly out of its banks from all the recent rains, parking was at a premium. Nevertheless, on this day Sulphur Well was indeed having a huge revival of community spirit. --Robert Cumming This story was posted on 2018-08-19 19:08:05
