By Ed Waggener Sharon Payne, W Barbee Street, Columbia, KY, signed up for City Council Saturday morning, August 11, 2018 in the office of Adair County Clerk Lisa Greer. The candidate works at AFLAC SupplementaI Insurance and is a Director at Agape House PRC, is an LCADD Executive Board Member, and a member of the Eunice Church of God. She is running, she says, because she wants to see positive things for youth to be involved in, and says she is big on educational learning. "We need more here for young people." Incumbents who have filed for the six member Council are Dr. Ronald Rogers, Craig Dean, Craig Lasley, and Linda Waggener. Seeking first terms, in addition to Sharon Payne, are Amy Pike and Taft Neal. Incumbent Council Member and former Mayor Pam Hoots has chosen be a candidate for Mayor, for a second non-consecutive term, opposing incumbent Mayor Curtis Hardwick. Still to be learned is incumbent Council Member Mark D. Harris' intentions.
