International Student Programs at LWC gets home of its own "Host parents can meet each other here, students can meet with American and international students, teachers and students can meet for tutoring sessions - the possibilities are as wide open as our imaginations," - SABINE EASTHAM, Director, LWC International Student Programs Click on headline for story with photo of ISP Center By Dr. Dan Koger Travel to foreign countries can be time-consuming and expensive. Now students at Lindsey Wilson College can get the feel—and the taste—of foreign lands with a visit to the new home of the college’s International Student Program at 304 Lindsey Wilson Street, Columbia, KY. "We're thrilled at the potential of our new house," said Sabine Eastham, director of the ISP for the school's 100+ students from 30 + countries. "Our new center will be a formal and informal meeting place for our international students, as well as a place where LWC's many U.S. students can meet our visitors from other countries and cultures," Eastham said. The house has a living room for use as a student relaxation and meeting area, offices for staff, and a kitchen where international students can prepare dishes from their home countries. Last night was the first official gathering as the program conducted its annual fall orientation for 24 new host families and LWC ISP Welcome Ambassadors. "Host parents can meet each other here, students can meet with American and international students, teachers and students can meet for tutoring sessions--the possibilities are as wide open as our imaginations," Eastham said. "Our little house may not be as big as the United Nations building in New York City, but the UN's mission of bringing people together from around the world is alive here as well." Eastham said there will be space at the house for classes in English as a Second Language and other subjects, along with closets with clothes international students can wear for special occasions, such as the Japanese "Coming of Age" ceremonies held each year. "We now can bring all our resources together in one place, or all our students to use," Eastham said. One of our first events will be a picnic for our host families - in our own back yard."
