Columbia man allegedly attempts to bite arresting officers

Incident at TJ/C Hospital. Facility's security requested assistance to remove man, later charged with public intoxication, who refused to leave facility's parking lot. Ofc. Jordan Dean, with assistance of Ofc. Jamie Cole, and Constable Jason Rector, TJ Security, and Sheriff's Deputies make arrest. Subject now faces numerous charges.
NOTE: An arrest is not a finding of guilt. An individual placed under arrest is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceeding.

An Adair County man was charged with multiple charges after incident at Parking Lot of TJ Hospital.

On August 4, 2018, Columbia Police were dispatched to TJ Hospital in response to a request from security of a person they needed assistance with removing from property.



The officers observed him on property and made contact determining that he was under the influence of an intoxicating substance. They then advised 43-year-old Christian Wheeler he was under arrest.

At that point Wheeler began to resist officers and attempted to run at one point, but was quickly caught. Wheeler continued to punch, kick and attempted to bite officers before he was subdued.

Wheeler was charged with:
  • Public intoxication
  • Assault 3rd degree on a police officer (3 counts)
  • Resisting arrest
  • Disorderly conduct
  • Menacing, five counts
  • Fleeing and evading police 2nd degree
He was arrested by CPD Officer Jordan Dean who was assisted by Officer Jamie Cole, Constable Jason Rector, TJ security and Sheriff's Deputies.
