Ceiling lighting was made the next priority inside the Jim Blair Center when the Parks and Recreation Board met Wednesday, August 1, 2018. They are to be installed before the floor is redone so there's no damage to it with the equipment needed for the ceiling work.

Board member Steven Baker commented that it wouldn't take long to get the small lighting upgrade investment back into the maintenance fund by changing over to LED bulbs. He predicted there will be considerable savings to come on the electricity costs.

While the lighting is being accomplished, permission will be requested at the upcoming August Fiscal Court meeting to advertise for a second round of bids for upgrades to the floor.

If the vote is to proceed on the floor, the ad will run, bids will be received and opened, best price decided upon and the City and County will then each pay half. The City of Columbia has already set aside their portion from the last bid.

Movie night is planned for the first third Saturday event. Steven will act as administrator showing a kids movie inside the Blair center. Andrea will do the promotional design of a flyer and possible T shirt. Proceeds from the sales of concessions will go to relay for life. Present at the Thursday, August 1, 2018 meeting were: Chairperson Cynthia Rowe, Director Lisa Handy, Vice-Chair Jelaine Harlow, Treasurer Barbara Shepherd, Board Members Greg Caldwell, Steven Baker and Linda Waggener, secretary. From Fiscal Court, Adair County Judge Executive Michael Stephens and Deputy CJE Andrea Waggener. Absent was Board Member Damon Hicks. Two places on the Board are open to be filled.

The next meeting will be at 5pmCT, Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at the 911 Center Conference Room. Regular monthly meetings are on the first Wednesday of each month at 5pmCT in the Center.
