Pauline Garrett Workman, 101, Cumberland Co., KY (1916-2018)

She was in the first graduating class of Martha Norris Memorial High School in Marrowbone after which she moved to Illinois where she attended Eastern Illinois University. She met and married her beloved husband, Dale Workman, and they lived and worked in Chicago, spent summers at their farm in Moorehead, Minnesota and traveled the world together until his death in 1983 and then she returned to Marrowbone.

Pauline Garrett Workman, of Marrowbone, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at the Nazareth Home in Louisville, Kentucky, having attained the age of 101 years, 9 months, and 4 days.

The funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at 1pmCT in the Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home, 601 N Main Street, Burkesville, KY. The family will receive friends after 11amCT until the funeral hour on Saturday. Burial will be in the Bilyeu Cemetery in Moweaqua, Shelby County, Illinois.



Pauline Garrett Workman, 101, Cumberland County, KY (1916-2018)

She was born in the Marrowbone Community of Cumberland County, Kentucky on Saturday, October 14, 1916, the daughter of Stanley and Berta (Davis) Garrett. She died July 18, 2018, in Louisville, Jefferson County, KY, at the age of 101 years, nine months, and four days.

She was a member of Marrowbone United Methodist Church, Auburn Christian Church in Auburn, Illinois, and a clerical worker at Time, Inc. She was a 1934 graduate of the first graduating class of Martha Norris Memorial High School in Marrowbone, Kentucky. She then moved to Illinois, and while there she attended Eastern Illinois University.

She met and married her beloved husband, Dale Workman, on Wednesday, May 1, 1940, where they lived and worked in Chicago, Illinois, spent summers at their farm in Moorehead, Minnesota and traveled the world together until his death in 1983.

She then returned to Marrowbone, Kentucky, where she resided until October 2015 and spent her last three years at the Nazareth Home in Louisville, Kentucky.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Wesley Garrett, sisters, Margarine Garrett and Dana Bradshaw.

She is survived by
  • Her brother-in-law - Gary (Barbara) Workman of Moorehead, Minnesota

  • Her nieces - Brenda (Bradshaw) Schissler (Wes) of Crestwood, Kentucky, and Glenda Bradshaw of Louisville, Kentucky

  • Nieces and nephews - Charles (Linda) Garrett, Linda (Armstrong) Kinslow (Barry), Tommy Garrett, Harold (Linda) Armstrong, Charles (Tammy) Armstrong, Donnie (Maria) Garrett, Glenda Bradshaw, Gary Allyn (Karen) Workman, B. Eugene Workman, Glenda Hogenson, Larry B. Workman, Margot Steinhart, Sherry A. Tallon, Rowena M. Neumann, Paula E. Kopp, Pamela J. Patton, Debra C. Workman

  • A host of great nieces and great nephews. Special thanks to Mary Haynes and the special staff at Nazareth Home for their continued care, love and support.
