Casey County traffic stop leads to drug arrest, multiple charges "As Trooper Harper asked Mr. Hamilton to step out of the vehicle, Trooper Martin Wesley observed the driver attempt to conceal an item under a baseball cap in the seat beside him." - STORY NOTE: An arrest is not a finding of guilt. An individual placed under arrest is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceeding. By Tpr. Nick Hale Public Information Officer Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY CASEY COUNTY, KY - On July 22, 2018 at approximately 9:23pmET, Trooper Jake Harper conducted a routine traffic stop 3 miles south of Liberty, KY, on US 127. 36 year old Errick Hamilton of Liberty was operating a 1997 Mercury at a high rate of speed when he was pulled over by Trooper Jake Harper. Upon contact with Mr. Hamilton, Trooper Harper noticed that he appeared to be under the influence. As Trooper Harper asked Mr. Hamilton to step out of the vehicle, Trooper Martin Wesley observed the driver attempt to conceal an item under a baseball cap in the seat beside him. After performing sobriety test's the subject was arrested and a search of the driver seat lead to Troopers finding approximately 2 grams of methamphetamine in a plastic bag underneath the baseball cap. Hamilton was charged with speeding 17 mph over the speed limit, failure to wear seatbelts, no operator's license, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs/alcohol, .08 - 1st offense; possession of a controlled substance, 1st degree, 3rd offense or > Offense ( Methamphetamine); and possession of drug paraphernalia.
