EDA agrees to sell additional acreage to ATS Mobility

Local firm's work at the park has created added value in all acreage in Green River Commerce Park, EDA Board Member Anthony Janes commented after the meeting. Sale will mean additional jobs in Columbia, pushing total ATS/Wilkerson Mobility employment into the 50+ range. Four to five new positions directly related to sale. EDA members take that into consideration in agreeing to sell additional acreage at the same price Wilkerson paid earlier. Vote unanimous, following motion by Janes, approved in voice vote by members present. -EW

The Columbia-Adair County Economic Development Authority voted unanimously to sell additional acreage to Rob Wilkerson, owner of ATS Mobility and Wilkerson Transportation, at the same price - approximately $7500 -$7600 per acre as Wilkerson paid the EDA previously.

The action, taken at the Tuesday, July 17, 2018 EDA meeting chaired by Mark Dykes, followed an appraisal of the land and a check with nearby land in industrial parks similar to Green River Commerce Park, and came after an executive session at the meeting.

No action was taken in the executive session. That came when the regular session was resumed.

Board Member Anthony Janes moved that the EDA sell additional acreage to the Wilkerson businesses "at the same price per acre as paid before," and the members of the board present, Janes, Roger Meadows, Kenzie Rowe, and Ann Martin affirmed with a unanimous voice vote.

Mr. Janes said afterward that he believed that the work ATS has done developing the park has itself contributed to the increased value of all the land in the park. Further, he noted the number of jobs ATS/Wilkerson Transportation is providing, which is coupled with a commitment by ATS to add new jobs as a result of the land deal.

Chairman Mark Dykes said that the appraisal placed the value of the land at $24,000 per acre, for the five acres appraised. The cost of the appraisal, he said, was $1,500.

Dykes said that the range for comparable land in nearby parks is $10-30,000 per acre.

Changes in GRC Industrial Park preparing for growth

2018-07-19 - Green River Commerce Park, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
Changes are happening in the front acres of Green River Commerce Industrial Park and acreage has just been sold by the Columbia Adair County Economic Development Authority to the current industry, ATS, preparing for more jobs growth. The acreage above is not part of the purchase, but its improvement was cited as one of the reasons the Columbia/Adair County EDA agreed to sell additional land to ATS. ATS, currently the only employer in the park participated in improvements for the park, contributing to a recent sewer project which benefits the park and made it more attractive to new employers.
