By Laura Marcum, STLP Leader at Adair County Primary Center

This week students from the Adair County Primary Center were able to attend the ISTE (International Society of Technology in Education) Conference in Chicago, Illinois. Back in March the project, designed by 14 second grade students, won the STLP State Championship K-5 Division. Their project was entitled "Bus Safety for Everyone". They made a bus safety video and designed a curriculum that could be used by teachers to teach bus safety.m, STLP Leader at ACPC

Winning state title also won trip to Chicago

As a result of winning the state title they also won a trip to Chicago to attend the ISTE Conference and to present their project on an international level. Each student had a chaperone who was able to attend with them.

While in Chicago, their group experienced Chicago style pizza. They visited the Museum of Science and Industry and enjoyed the hands-on activities. They went to the Navy Pier where the rides and fountain were a big hit. They Shopped on the Magnificent Mile. The group also went to the Millennium Park so they could see the famous "Bean" sculpture.

Team amazed at the size of the place and number of people

When their conference day arrived students were amazed at the size of the place and the number of people walking around. Each student had their own presenter badge allowing them access to event areas.

When their project was set up, part of the group stayed to talk with visitors and show their products. The other students walked around to see what other schools had done, visit the digital playground, and check out the vendor area.

Huge line of people queue to see amazing kids from Columbia, KY
One of the students at the presentation area commented on the huge line of people waiting to visit their table. Needless to say, the 2nd grade team from Kentucky was quite an attraction.

The board game they created was impressive especially since they had more than one version that could be used. People enjoyed hearing how the students created their paper products digitally after drawing them out on paper.

Their hand clap cheer could be heard and seemed to draw people over to their presentation. Students met visitors from all over the United States and other countries; like China and South Africa to name a couple.

This was an experience of a lifetime

This was an experience of a lifetime . Families attending and school staff felt blessed to have had such an opportunity. Photos can also be seen on the Adair County Primary Center FaceBook page.
