CMS Beta Club makes history at national convention Attend national Junior Beta Convention for first time in school history. Click on headline for complete storey By Calen McKinney Campbellsville Middle School Junior Beta Club has once again made school history. At the National Junior Beta Convention in Savannah, GA, CMS seventh-grader Chase Hord was elected to serve as national secretary for the coming year. And Whitney Frashure, a seventh-grader, placed third in the nation in the language arts testing category. The CMS group also received a School of Merit award. CMS Junior Beta Club attended the convention June 12-16, 2018, at the Savannah International Trade & Convention Center for the first time in school history. More than 20,000 students attended. At the convention, four of the five top offices went to students from Kentucky schools. In addition to Hord being elected secretary, Aiden Miller of Barren County Middle School was elected president; Hannah Rager of Muhlenberg North Middle School was elected vice president; and Mary Claire Warren of Eastern Elementary School was elected reporter. Hord spent the week campaigning for votes, talking to students from other schools. He delivered a speech and his fellow Beta Club members performed a campaign skit. After the skit, Hord answered an on-stage question. CMS Junior Beta Club members advanced to the national convention because of their historic performance at the state convention in Lexington on Jan. 31-Feb. 2, 2018. At the state convention, Hord became the first CMS student to win a state Beta office. He was elected to serve as secretary at next year's convention, which advanced him to compete for the national title. At the state convention, the CMS Junior Beta Club was awarded a National 10% Growth Award and named a National School of Merit. Frashure won third place in language arts and eighth-grader Peyton Dabney won third place in social studies. They advanced to compete at nationals. CMS students attending the Kentucky Junior Beta convention include sixth-graders Aryanna Britton, Chloe Thompson, Ellington Gowin, Mollie Bailey, Karlie Cox, Kiara Graves, Layla Steen and Nathan McFarland; seventh-graders Mikaela Scharbrough, Whitney Frashure, Alexis Byers, Zamar Owens, Ronin Smith and Chase Hord; and eighth-graders Sarah Adkins, Rylee Petett, Kaylyn Smith, Tayler Thompson, Lainey Watson, Myricle Gholston, Alexis Thomas, Christina Miller, Abby Brisko, Isabella Vannice, Dakota Harris, Peyton Dabney and Blake Settle. Beta sponsors are CMS teacher Paige Cook and bookkeeper Natalia Warren. CMS teachers Robbilyn Speer and Katie Campbell and Campbellsville Elementary School teacher Farrah Hord are co-sponsors.
