CASEY CO: Franklin County man charged with manslaughter

CASEY COUNTY, KY (Tue 12 Jun 2018) On June 12, 2018 at approximately 3:45pmET 37 year old John L. Whitaker of Frankfort, KY was arrested at his residence in Frankfort by Trooper Jacob Guffey.

The Casey County Grand Jury returned an indictment on Whitaker Monday June 11, 2018 with several criminal offenses resulting from an automobile collision that occurred in July 2017. Whitaker was charged with one count of Manslaughter in the Second Degree, three counts of Assault in the First Degree, three counts of Assault in the Fourth Degree, and one count of Driving Under the Influence of Drugs (DUI), Second Offense, Aggravating Circumstance.



The indictment alleges that on July 8, 2017 Whitaker was operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs when he caused a four vehicle automobile collision on U.S. Highway 127, a few miles north of Liberty.

The collision resulted in the death of Phillip Tayler Dillon, age 26 of Danville, Ky as well as injuries to six others.

Whitaker was lodged in the Franklin County Detention Center. This case was investigated by Trooper Adam Likins.
