Columbia City Council 04 June 2018 - REPORT

At the June 4, 2018, Regular Session of Columbia City Council:
  • Council approves five board re-appointments recommended by Mayor Hardwick
  • Municipal Aid Co-op Program approved
  • Hazard Mitigation plan adopted
  • Minutes of 7 & 17 May 2018 sessions approved
  • Council comments include recognition of the Crusade for Children effort this year, street work, and beginning of study for more activities for younger citizens

The June 4, 2018 City Council meeting opened with Citizens Comments. Kasey Hoskins, Transportation Planner at the Lake Cumberland Area Development District, shared information about how the agency can help with planning and training on the subjects of roads, bike lanes and sidewalks.

Mayor Curtis Hardwick presided, with all members of the city council, Craig Dean, Linda Waggener, Craig Lasley, Ronald Rogers, Pamela Hoots, and Mark D, Harris present, as were City Clerk Rhonda Loy, City Attorney Dustin Warren, and Chief of Police Jason Cross, in addition to media.



The meeting was brief, and was concluded in 19 minutes, during which the following actions were taken.

Minutes approved for 7 & 17 May 2018 meetings

Minutes of the May 7, 2018 regular meeting were approved with corrections on a motion by Ronald Rogers, second by Linda Waggener, and a unanimous vote.

Minutes of the May 17, 2018 Special Called meeting were approved on a motion by Craig Dean, second by Pamela Hoots, and a unanimous vote.

Municipal Aid Co-op Program adopted and approved

Resolution No. 2018-02 was accepted, a resolution adopting and approving the execution of a Municipal Aid Co-Op Program contract between the Commonwealth of Ky and City of Columbia. Motion was made by Mark Harris, seconded by Ronald Rogers and the vote was unanimous.

Hazard Mitigation 5 year plan adopted

Resolution No. 2018-03 was also accepted, a resolution adopting the Lake Cumberland Area Development District Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan 5-Year Update. Motion was made by Linda Waggener and seconded by Ronald Rogers. The vote was unanimous.

Council approves Mayor Hardwick's appointments
Mayor Curtis Hardwick proposed the following appointments and received unanimous votes of approval for each through May of 2022: To the Planning & Zoning Board of Adjustments
- Mary Anne Loy
- Billy Wheat
To the Columbia Planning & Zoning Board
- George Kolbenschlag
- Joe Flowers
- Roy Rademacher

Council member comments:
- Mark Harris brought a request for trimming for the sake of visibility driving on Keen Street.

- Pam Hoots congratulated the Adair County Fire Department on the success of the Crusade for Children. She also followed up with the Mayor on the Trabue-Russell House kitchen upgrades.

- Ronald Rogers complimented the flags flying downtown and requested the City keep them up through the July 4th holiday this year and every year.

- Linda Waggener said she had been contacted by a young parent who is concerned over the need for young people to have more to do in Columbia. Mayor Hardwick responded that he was willing to study any proposals and announced that the city street department has been painting and sprucing up the City Park at the old Fairgrounds.
