LWC Women's Tennis sweeps San Diego Christian By Charles Balcom Mobile, AL - The Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team secured a spot in the NAIA National Championship Quarterfinals after topping San Diego Christian (CA) by a 5-0 margin on Wednesday at the Mobile Tennis Center. It marks the 11th time in program history and is the seventh season in a row the Blue Raiders have reached the final eight. The fourth-seeded Blue Raiders (13-2) now face the winner of fifth-seeded Brenau (GA) and 12th-seeded Middle Georgia State in the quarterfinals on Thursday at 9amCT. Lindsey Wilson took an early 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles play against the 13th-seeded Hawks (12-7). After a default by San Diego Christian at the No. 3 doubles match gave LWC the first point of the day, Fiona Curty and Chiara Epifani doubled the lead with an 8-3 victory over Paula Vazquez and Aleksandra Emelianova at the second-seeded match. Minja Gligic and Jovana Peric, who rank No. 21 as a doubles pairing, completed the sweep by upsetting the fifth-ranked duo of Sarah Urbanek and Nadine Geschke at the top match 8-4. Another default to start singles play by the Hawks at the No. 6 position gave the Blue Raiders a 4-0 lead in the match. Lina Sachica Ramos then completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Miriam Boeta at the No. 4 position. The final four singles matches all went unfinished after the fifth and decisive point was captured. This story was posted on 2018-05-17 05:59:39
