LWC Women's Tennis begins NAIA National Championship play By Christopher Coombs No. 4-seeded Lindsey Wilson women's tennis begins its run at the NAIA National Championship this Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at 9amCT at the Mobile Tennis Center, 851 Gaillard Drive , Mobile, AL. The Blue Raiders (12-2) received an automatic berth in the tournament after winning their 14th Mid-South Conference Tournament title in April and were one of eight teams to earn a first-round bye, joining Keiser (FL), Cardinal Stritch (WI), Brenau (GA), Xavier (LA), William Carey (MS), Northwestern Ohio and Georgia Gwinnett. LWC awaits the victor of No. 13-seeded San Diego Christian (Calif.) and No. 20-seeded Mobile (AL). Those two teams were scheduled to meet in the First Round at 8:30amCT on Tuesday. Quarterfinal action is slated for Thursday with the semifinals to follow on Friday. The tournament's championship match is scheduled for Saturday at 9amCT. Lindsey Wilson enters play on a 10-match winning streak dating back to March 31. The Blue Raiders are 12-1 against NAIA competition this year, including a 6-0 mark in MSC regular-season action. Two Blue Raiders are currently mentioned in the Singles Intercollegiate Tennis Association NAIA National Rankings: Jovana Peric is the 18th-ranked singles player in the nation and is 11-2 this season as Minja Gligic ranked No. 36. One doubles pairing is mention in the ITA rankings as well. Gligic and Peric have teamed up to record an 11-3 record in doubles play and are No. 21 in the nation. The Blue Raiders have advanced all the way to the NAIA National Championship match in both of the past two season but their championships hope have ended at the hands of Georgia Gwinnett. Lindsey Wilson came within one point of capturing the 2016 NAIA National Championship but fell 5-4 to Georgia Gwinnett. Last season the LWC again squared off with Grizzlies in the championship match and again fell, this time by a final score of 5-3. The NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship second-round match between Lindsey Wilson and the winner of San Diego Christian and Mobile is scheduled for Wednesday at 9amCT at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala.
