At its last regular special session, Thursday, April 5, 2018, the Columbia/Adair County Utilities Commission authorized General Manager Lenny Stone to find financing for an estimated $675,000 12" water line installation, extending from the intersection of Burkesville Street/Road and the Adair County Veterans Memorial Bypass to the intersection of the Bypass & Jamestown RD/KY 55 S.

Engineering for the work is already authorized through Jim Thompson's Kentucky Engineering Group.

The work is needed now for two main purposes, General Manager Lenny Stone said. One is that there are commercial developments - one for a trucking facility for Nathan Bennett Trucking, the other for as yet unnamed project, planned along this stretch of road, and the second is that the line will give an alternate route for water on Jamestown Street, which would eliminate many of the frequent Boil Water advisories for restaurants on Jamestown Hill - and for residences on connected streets all the way to town.

The project will also improve the utilities ability to feed adequate water to Fairplay Road from town should a problem develop in the feed from sources from KY 61 S - from Sparksville water tower.

The project is the second "county" project the board of commissioners have put in front of the Tutt Street/Curry Street/Bomar Heights work, which would complete the oral promises to the City of Columbia to put completely rework the old Columbia Utilities aging infrastructure.

As originally planned, $4,000,000 was secured to complete the town project, including the Tutt Street/Curry Street/Bomar Heights phase.

The April 5, 2018 meeting was chaired by Vice Chair David Jones, in the absence of Commission Chairman Wid Harris, with commissioners Doug Sapp, Junior Brown, and Mike Newton present.
