Gladys Combest Murrell, 91, Adair County, KY

She was a member of the Columbia United Methodist Church and a teacher at Lindsey Wilson College and the Adair County School System. She was a member of the Adair Co. Retired Teachers, Adair Homemakers and Methodist Women. She enjoyed reading, flower gardening, feeding and watching songbirds. She was a member of a prominent, accomplished old line Adair County, KY, family. She leaves eight direct and one step- living descendants.

Gladys Combest Murrell, 91, of Columbia, KY passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 5:50amET at the Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville, KY after several months illness.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 10amCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 201 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY. Clergy officiating will be Rev. John Hatton. Interment will follow in the Haven Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends after 4:30pmCT on Friday, April 6, 2018 at the funeral home.

She was born in Adair County, KY on January 25, 1927. She was the daughter of the late William Jeffries and Carrie Holmes Combest. She died in Campbellsville, Taylor County, KY, Wedensday, April 4, 2018, at the age of 91 years, two months, and 10 days.

She was a member of the Columbia United Methodist Church and a teacher at Lindsey Wilson College and the Adair County School System. She was a member of the Adair Co. Retired Teachers, Adair Homemakers and Methodist Women. She enjoyed reading, flower gardening, feeding and watching songbirds.

Survived by
  • One daughter, Vicki Wright of Hamilton, OH

  • One son, Michael Gene (Lee Ann) Murrell of Dyersburg, TN

  • Three sisters: Helen Simpson and Betty Logsdon both of Glasgow, KY; and Bessie Willis of Columbia, KY

  • Three grandchildren: Carrie Tyler, Laurie Wright, Macy Smith

  • One step grandchild: Tyler Hallum

  • Three great grandchildren

  • Twenty four nieces and nephews
