LEBANON, TN - (Sat 31 Mar 2018) Lindsey Wilson baseball split a Mid-South Conference doubleheader today with No. 25 Cumberland (TN) at Ernest L. Stockton-Woody Hunt Stadium.

The split earned Lindsey Wilson the weekend series win over the host Phoenix. Lindsey Wilson won Friday's series opener 9-3.

Both games turned out to be blowouts -- Cumberland won today's opener 13-3 in a shortened seven-inning game and Lindsey Wilson won the series finale 12-3.

Game 1: Cumberland 13 Lindsey Wilson 3
Cumberland scored three runs in the first and seventh innings and five runs in the sixth to even the series with a 13-3 win.

Polo Portela hurled a complete game for the Phoenix (23-10, 3-3 in the Mid-South Conference) allowing three runs -- all coming in the second inning -- on seven hits.

Cumberland scored three times in the first inning only to have the Blue Raiders (15-18, 4-4) respond with three runs of their own in the top of the second.

Seth Price hit his first collegiate home run following a two-out walk to Nick Sanders and a single from Manny Chavarria. Price ended the game 1-for-2 with a run and 3 RBIs. He also reached base a second time in the game with a walk in the fifth inning.

Cumberland reclaimed the lead in the home half of the second inning and extended its lead to 5-3 with a run in the fourth. The two runs were the start of 10 unanswered runs for the Phoenix that ended the game early due to the run-rule in the seventh inning.

Calderon ended with a team-high two hits in the setback.

Kelvin Guzman suffered the loss allowing nine runs on just six hits over 5-1/3 innings. While he struck out six, Guzman issued seven walks in the loss.

Game 2: Lindsey Wilson 12 Cumberland 3
Lindsey Wilson scored multiple runs in four different innings and Tyler Russell hurled a complete game in a 12-3 win to take the weekend series.

Chavarria, Ben Heideman, and Oliver Baez all homered -- the first three-homer game of the season for the Blue Raiders. Baez finished 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs and three runs.

Cumberland led 1-0 after the first and 3-2 following the third inning.

Lindsey Wilson scored the next 10 runs -- over the next three innings -- beginning with a five-run fourth inning.

Price singled with bases loaded to plate the inning's first run and Alec Salcedo chased another run home on a fielder's choice. Zak Mizell -- running for Chavarria -- scored on the same play due to a Cumberland error. With two outs, Heideman connected on his third home run of the season to give Lindsey Wilson a 7-3 lead.

Tyler Russell -- who gave up three runs on five hits in the first three innings -- settled down after a rocky start. He did not surrender a run over the final four innings of the scheduled seven-inning game while allowing just four hits. Russell struck out four to improve to 6-2 on the season.

Jordan Gardiner doubled home a run in the fifth and later scored on Chavarria's two-run homer to push the Lindsey Wilson lead to 10-3. Gardiner finished the game 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBIs.

Lindsey Wilson tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning to post its highest run (12) total of the year.

The series win marks the second of the season in three conference series for the Blue Raiders this season. Lindsey Wilson won two of three against Georgetown (KY) two weeks ago.
