George Williams, Taylor County, KY (1924-2018)

He was an outstanding community leader, achieving many firsts, locally and nationally. He professed faith in Christ and was baptized a member of Mt. Union Baptist Church in Green County, later changing his membership to Pleasant Union Baptist Church. He was the widower of Allene Cowherd. His wife, Celia Robinson DeMers, survives. He leaves 51 direct and five step living descendants. He was a native of Taylor County, KY. His final resting place will be in Green County, KY.

George Williams, 94, of Campbellsville, KY died at 7:15pmET, Friday, March 23, 2017 in Campbellsville, KY.

The funeral services will be at 10amCT/11amET, Tuesday, March 27, 2017 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Lebanon Avenue, Campbellsville, KY, by Rev. Michael Caldwell. Visitation will be 4pm-7pmCT/5pm-8pmET, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pleasant Run Baptist Church Cemetery, Green County, KY.



George Williams, Taylor County, KY (1924-2018)


George Williams was the son of the late John E. "Mose" Williams and Mary Edna Thompson Williams. He was born February 29, 1924 in the Oak Grove section of Taylor County, KY. He died at Friday, March 23, 2017 in Campbellsville, Taylor County, KY, at the age of 94 years, 23 days.

He professed faith in Christ and was baptized a member of Mt. Union Baptist Church in Green County, later changing his membership to Pleasant Union Baptist Church.

He united in marriage to Allene Cowherd in 1944 and she preceded him in death on February 26, 1989.

He later united in marriage to Celia Robinson DeMers November 11, 1992.

He is survived by:
  • His wife, Celia Demers Williams of Campbellsville, KY

  • Two daughters and one son: Rebecca Ann Henry and husband, James of Oswego, IL; and Wanda Sue Webb and husband, Otis and Larry Williams and wife, Wendy of Campbellsville, KY

  • Five step-sons: Brian DeMers and wife, Debbie of Chugiac, AK; Dan DeMers and wife, Julie of Turnwater, WA; David DeMers and wife, Monique of Elk Grove, CA; Mike DeMers and wife, Vanessa of Camby, IN; and Steve DeMers and wife, Elaine of Summersville, KY

  • Nineteen grandchildren: Lavelle Henry and Annetta Henry of Oswego, IL; Shon Williams of Flint, MI; Kelly Williams of Campbellsville, KY; Lorry Pinkston of Louisville, KY; LaTonya King of Campbellsville, KY; Aaron DeMers of Campbellsville, KY; Alethea DeMers of Yokosuka, Japan; Alex Woods of Columbus, Ohio; Sierra DeMers of Frankfort, KY; Jacqueline DeMers of Frankfort,KY; li DeMers and Wyatt DeMers of Tumwater, WA; Chris DeMers of Santa Margarita, CA; Savannah Oaxaca-DeMers of Elk Grove, CA; Asa DeMers of Camby, IN; Stephen DeMers and Amanda DeMers of Elizabethown, KY; and Meagan Molenkine of Oswego, IL

  • Twenty-five great-grandchildren

  • Four great-great-grandchildren

  • Special nephew: Randy Williams of Campbellsville, KY

  • Sister-in-law: Jewel Williams of Aurora, IL

  • Several nieces and nephews

  • And many other relatives and friends
He was also preceded in death by five brothers: Carl Williams, Emmett Williams, Richard Williams, Ollie Homer Williams and Mitchell Williams and a grandson, Nivarian Shively.
