LWC softball hosts Georgetown in doubleheader

The series was originally scheduled for four games with a doubleheader on Saturday, however forecasted inclement weather has forced those games to be postponed. The doubleheader will be made up at a later date.

The No. 11-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team opens up Mid-South Conference play against Georgetown (KY) in a doubleheader Friday, March 23, 2018 at 2pmCT at Marilyn D. Sparks Park, inside Lindsey Wilson Sports Center, 928 Russell Road, Columbia, KY.



The series was originally scheduled for four games with a doubleheader on Saturday, however forecasted inclement weather has forced those games to be postponed. The doubleheader will be made up at a later date.

The Blue Raiders (19-4) swept a doubleheader against Bryan (TN) on Wednesday. Lindsey Wilson won game one 11-2 in five innings and took game two 13-11. Lindsey Wilson totaled 32 hits in the doubleheader as they extended its winning streak to a season-high nine games. In game one, Amber Hancock, Cassie Matlock, Samantha Luckett and Cassie Kooker each recorded two RBIs. Annabelle Ramirez picked up her fifth win of the season pitching all five innings allowing two runs on six hits while striking out five.

Matlock led the way for the Blue Raiders in game two driving in three runs. Alaeni Ray, Lyric Houston and Kelsie Cornelius each had two RBIs. Cornelius, Houston and Kooker each hit a home run in the game. Hannah Epperson won her fourth game of the season pitching 2-1/3 innings of relief allowing three runs on four hits. Ramirez picked up her second save of the season.

Georgetown (14-5) swept a doubleheader against Union (KY) on March 16. The Tigers won the first game 8-0 in six innings and completed the sweep with a 6-2 victory. Kara Howard recorded two hits in the first game while driving in a pair of runs. Allison Watson hit a home run in the game. Hannah Morton pitched all six innings not allowing a hit while walking one and striking out 13. In game two, Chaselyn Allgeier went 4-for-4 while Cassidy Janes recorded two hits with two RBIs. Allgeier leads the team with a .508 batting average while Howard leads the team in RBIs (30) and home runs with three. Morton leads the team in wins (8), strikeouts (77) and ERA with 1.47.

Lindsey Wilson has won the last 20 matchups against Georgetown dating back to March 20, 2013. The Blue Raiders outscored the Tigers 20-7 in three matchups last season. The two teams last met on April 30, 2017 in the Mid-South Conference Tournament where Lindsey Wilson picked up a 3-2 victory.
