This year 2nd grade students participating in the STLP or Student Technology Leadership Program created a project that they thought could benefit our school and other districts as well. Our students picked a topic that they wanted to make a video about to present to a regional showcase. They picked "Bus Safety for Everyone".

Second grade students in the Adair County Primary Center's Student Technology Leadership Program planned, researched, scripted, recorded, and edited the video.

Our last bus video for our district was getting old and they thought a new one would be fun to do and would benefit students. The students did the research about school bus safety as well as created the script, starred in the video, used the video camera, and edited the footage. They have also worked on a curriculum for teachers to go along with their video. In their curriculum they have included the 14 minute video, a worksheet, a coloring page, an edible treat (looks like a school bus), a cheer, a board game, and a test.

Even though they looked at many different websites when studying bus safety, they primarily used the Kenucky Transportation Cabinet website and the Adair County Schools website.. We plan for our curriculum to be available to everyone for free through our school website. Our curriculum will be posted for everyone the last week of March.

After sharing their project with the Kentucky Department of Education Pupil Transportation Division, School Bus Fleet, a national news magazine) has requested the project be featured in an upcoming news story.

As the STLP teacher, I have truly enjoyed witnessing the students' ideas on paper becoming reality. They have also taught a lesson on Bus Safety to every class at our school. To see these 2nd graders take on the role of a teacher and to see their fellow students respond to them as teachers has really been a highlight to the project. They have really made me proud.

This video and curriculum idea has been invited to the Kentucky STLP State Championship on March 29th at RUPP Arena in Lexington. Before we go to our championship we would love to hear back from our community. It would be great to be able to report community responses to our judges at the Championship.
