American Legion Post 65 aids Elena Bonitz trip to Washington

American Legion Post 65, Edmonton-Metcalfe County Kentucky, recently presented Elena Bonitz with a check to help with her expenses to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum in Washington DC this summer. Elena, a junior at Metcalfe County High School will be taking a six-day trip focused on the fields of National Security and Foreign Affairs.



She will be able to hear from internationally recognized and respected civilian policy makers, senior military offers, and veterans; and visit Washington's government agencies, military installations, and diplomatic institutions for an in-depth look at careers in national security. Elena will visit several of our nation's memorials including the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial and the World War II Memorial. There will be an important cyber security panel discussion. The forum will also have Career Exploration Panels on Diplomacy, Intelligence and Defense.

The attendees will have a group discussion to review career opportunities in the military. There will be a Career fair with all the branches of service represented along with the National Security Agency the World Bank Group, the Peace Corps, the U. S. Department of State, the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Virginia Military Institute and the U. S. Air Force Academy.

On the third day there will be discussions on Security Policies and visit the Pentagon, Andrews Air Force Base, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U. S. Naval Academy and many others including the Embassy of Japan and the Naval Air Station at Patuxent River.
