Alan Hamilton Humphress, 87, Taylor Co., KY (1930-2018)

He had served in the United States Army during the Korean war and was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. After returning home from serving in the armed forces, he worked hard as a farmer and had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Knifley Christian Church. He was the son of the late Omer & Nellie Hamilton Humphress, and the widower of Effie Irene Hornback. He leaves 42 direct living descendants.

Alan Hamilton Humphress, 87 years, 2 months, and 25 days of age, of Campbellsville, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 with his family by his side.

Funeral services for Alan Hamilton Humphress will be at 10amCT/11amET, Monday, March 12, 2018 at Lyon-DeWitt-Berry Funeral Home, 503 E Main Street, Campbellsville, KY. Burial will be in the Lebanon National Cemetery, 20 Hwy 208, Lebanon, KY. The family request visitation from 4pm-7pmCT/5pm-8pmET, on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at Lyon-DeWitt-Berry Funeral Home.



Alan Hamilton Humphress, 87, Taylor Co., KY (1930-2018)


He was born December 13, 2018, in Yuma, KY. He was the son of son of the late Omer & Nellie Hamilton Humphress. He died Wednesday, March 7, 2018, in Campbellsville, Taylor County, KY, at the age of 87 years, two months, and 22 days. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Effie Irene Hornback and their son, Michael Shannon Humphress as well as eight brothers and sisters.

He had served in the United States Army during the Korean war and was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. After returning home from serving in the armed forces, he worked hard as a farmer and had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Knifley Christian Church.

Alan is survived by:
  • A son: Alan Humphress, Jr. and his companion Brenda Metcalfe of Campbellsville, KY

  • Four daughters: Barbara Abell of Knifley, KY; Moveta Keltner and husband Ray of Rose Hill, VA: Annette Humphress and Jackie Tucker of Campbellsville, KY

  • His siblings: Nancy Dixon of Knifley, KY; Billy Humphress and wife Edith of Campbellsville, KY; and Karen Overstreet and husband Eugene of California

  • Twelve grandchildren

  • Twenty-four great grandchildren

  • One great great grandchild
