LWC baseball hosts Brescia and Indiana Wesleyan today

The Lindsey Wilson baseball team faces Brescia (Ky.) and Indiana Wesleyan Tuesday at Egnew Park, inside LW Sports Park, 928 Russell Road, Columbia, KY. Brescia and Indiana Wesleyan will play the first game at 12pmCT. The Blue Raiders then battle Indiana Wesleyan at 3pmCT and Brescia at 6pmCT.


Lindsey Wilson (7-10) split a doubleheader against Indiana Tech on Sunday. The Blue Raiders took game one 5-0 and fell in game two 14-4. Manny Chavarria led the way for Lindsey Wilson in game one with three hits and two runs batted in. Tyler Maskill recorded two hits and drove in a run as the Blue Raiders outhit the Warriors 10-5. Ricky Winfield picked up his second win of the season pitching eight innings , striking out six batters, after giving up just five hits. Daniel O'Keefe recorded three hits with a pair of RBIs in game two while Ben Heideman hit a home run.

Oswaldo Calderon leads Lindsey Wilson in batting average with a .355 this season. Calderon and Maskill are tied for the team lead in runs batted in with 10. On the mound, Tyler Russell has collected a team-high four wins in 31-2/3 innings pitched with a 2.56 earned run average and 27 strikeouts. Winfield has recorded the most strikeouts on the team with 29 and his 1.44 ERA leads the team.

Indiana Wesleyan (8-6) split a doubleheader with Hiwassee (Tenn.) on Monday. The Wildcats dropped game one 7-5 and took game two 5-1. David Corbin pitched a complete game in game two with three hits and nine strikeouts. Jordan Wharton leads the team in batting average (.317) and RBIs with 11. On the mound, Jon Young has a team-best 1.80 earned run average while Kyle Hall and Caleb Eder are tied for the team lead in strikeouts with 16.

Today's matchup is the fourth meeting between the two schools. Lindsey Wilson holds a 2-1 edge in the series and won the last matchup on March 10, 2017 2-1.

Brescia (1-12) battled Cincinnati Christian (Ohio) in a three-game series Friday-Saturday. The Bearcats dropped game one 2-1 and fell 10-7 in the second game. Brescia wrapped up the series with a 10-6 victory. Alex Flock went 3-for-4 in the victory driving in four runs and hitting a home run. Alex Pennes recorded two hits with a pair of RBIs.

Lindsey Wilson has won nine of the last 10 matchups against Brescia dating back to April 16, 2014. The two teams last met on April 19, 2017 with the Blue Raiders picking up an 11-1 victory.
