LWC advances in Indoor Track & Field Championships

Mosheleketi earns All-American honors in long jump; Hallmon and Bright advance to two finals at Indoor Track & Field Championships

Pittsburgh, KS - The Lindsey Wilson Indoor Track & Field wrapped up its the first day of competition on Friday at the 2018 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships, held at the Robert W. Plaster Center.

Goabaone Mosheleketi earned NAIA All-American honors after finishing tied for third place in the long jump event. His distance of 7.38 meters, which he accomplished in his second jump, tied with Indiana Tech's Alfredo Smith. Mosheleketi trailed only event winner Jordan Downs of Bethel (Ind.) at 7.65 meters and Hastings' (Neb.) Caleb Cowling at 7.44 meters.

Mosheleketi earned 5.5 team points with his finish, putting the men's team in 17th place overall.


Safia Bright and Kevin Hallmon both qualified for their respective finals in the 60 and 200 meter dash events on Saturday.

Bright posted the second-fastest qualifying time in the women's 60 meter dash preliminaries at 7.47 seconds. She trailed only Southern-New Orleans' (La.) Kimone Hinds who ran a 7.44. Bright now advances to the 60 meter finals on Saturday at 1:50 p.m. CT.

In the 200 meters, Bright ran a 24.49 to win her heat and post the fourth-fastest qualifying time overall to earn a spot in the final eight. The finals are set for 3:15 p.m. CT on Saturday.

Hallmon punched a ticket to the men's 60 meter finals after posting the seventh-fastest qualifying time in the prelims at 6.81 seconds. He finished .02 seconds quicker than the ninth-place finisher to secure the second-to-last qualifying spot. Hallmon returns for the 60 meter finals on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT.

Hallmon also ran his way to the finals of the 200 meters after crossing the line in 21.37 seconds, just .07 seconds behind the top qualifier from Wayland Baptist (Texas). The 200 meter finals are set for 3:25 p.m. CT on Saturday.

Anthony Thompson and Michael Redmon also joined Mosheleketi in the long jump event. Thompson finished in 13th place with a final distance of 6.74 meters, while Redmon placed 15th with a leap of 6.61 meters.

Annesha Harris competed in the women's long jump, posting a 21st-place finish after hitting a distance of 5.43 meters in her first leap.

On Saturday, along with Hallmon and Bright in their respective finals, Leia Gregory competes in the women's triple jump, Paige Pettell competes in the women's shot put, and Mosheleketi, Thompson and Pierre Ezanno all compete in the men's triple jump.

The third and final day of the 2018 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships begin at 10amCT on Saturday.
