Des Moines, Iowa (2 Mar 2018) - The No. 5-ranked Lindsey Wilson wrestling team sits in fourth place after day one of the NAIA Wrestling National Championships on Friday at the Jacobson Exhibition Center.

The Blue Raiders ended Friday with 50 total team points. Grand View (Iowa) leads the field with 98.5 points, followed by Cumberlands (KY) with 67 and Missouri Valley with 56.5 points.

Five Lindsey Wilson grapplers remain alive in their respective double-elimination brackets. Cam Tessari (seeded No. 1 at 149 pounds) and Diorian Coleman (No. 7 at 165) both reached the championship semifinals. Brady Moser (No. 8 at 133), Colton Gonzalez (No. 7 at 174) and Brandon Reed (No. 10 at heavyweight) suffered one loss and are wrestling in the consolation bracket. All five wrestlers will receive All-American honors for their performances at the championship as one of the final eight grapplers remaining in their respective weight brackets.

Tessari won his three Friday matches to advance to the championship bracket semifinals of the 149-pound weight class. The No. 1 seed got his tournament started with a 16-0 technical fall in six minutes and 23 seconds over Gabe Bloough of Saint Mary (KS) and then defeated Jake Wilson of Midland (NE) 3-2.

The junior from Monroeville, Ohio then punched his ticket to Saturday's placement rounds with a pin over Kyle Lee (No. 8 at 149) of Williams Baptist (AR). Halfway through the first period, Tessari recorded a takedown and transitioned into 4-point near fall to take a 6-0 lead into the second period. A stalling point and a takedown in the second frame gave Tessari a 10-0 lead before he pinned his opponent to the mat at the 4:55 mark.

Tessari now faces Joseph Alexander of Simpson (CA) in Saturday's championship bracket semifinals. Alexander upset the No. 4 and No. 5 seeds to reach the semis.

After a first round bye, Coleman opened his day at 165 pounds with an 8-1 decision over Dalton Tipton (No. 10 at 165) of Missouri Valley.

Coleman then earned a spot in Saturday's placement rounds with a 6-4 decision over Austin Coy of York (Neb.). Coy took a 1-0 lead into the third period, but an early stalling call and an escape gave Coleman a 2-1 lead. With just over a minute left Coleman added a takedown, but an escape cut his lead to 4-2 with 53 seconds remaining. Coy tied things up late in the period but another stalling call and escape gave Coleman the two point victory.

The senior from Mesa, Arizona is set to face Andrew Simmons (No. 3 at 165) from Missouri Valley in Saturday's championship bracket semifinals.

Moser defeated Julian Melecio of York (Neb.) by a 4-2 decision and then produced a 14-5 major decision victory over Cartland Allen (No. 9 at 133) of Graceland (Iowa) in his first two bouts at 133 pounds.

Moser fell into the consolation bracket when he lost to Mid-South Conference foe Jake Sinkovics (No. 1 at 133) of Cumberlands by way of a 3-0 decision.
