Bobbie Reid Shirley, 74, Green County, KY (1943-2018)

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church. He was a self-employed carpenter and electrician, and a Vietnam Veteran having served in the United States Army. He was the son of the late son of the late Edwin Paul Shirley and Dorothy Harris Shirley. His wife of 50 years, Maedell Akin Shirley, survives.

Mr. Bobbie Reid Shirley of Greensburg, KY departed this life Sunday, February 25, 2018 at his home in the Ebenezer Community

The funeral services will be conducted at 1pmCT Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 South Main Street, Greensburg, KY, with burial to follow in the Union Chapel Cemetery in Metcalfe County, with full military honors conducted by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation is requested from 4-8pmCT, Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home and after 7amCT, Wednesday until time of the funeral service.

Pallbearers are Joey Ferguson, Guy Douglas Corbin, Alex Corbin, Justin Durrett, Terrill Williams and Clark Marshall. Honorary Pallbearers are Bobby Durrett, Jerry Corbin, Rhuel Bishop, Brad Chris, Tom Hollenbeck, Robert Earhart and Philip Cox.

Mr. Bobbie Reid Shirley of Greensburg, Green County, Kentucky, son of the late Edwin Paul Shirley and Dorothy Harris Shirley, was born on Friday, October 1, 1943 and departed this life Sunday, February 25, 2018 at his home in the Ebenezer Community, Green County, KY. He was 74 years, 4 months, and 24 days of age.

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church. He was a self-employed carpenter and electrician, and a Vietnam Veteran having served in the United States Army.

He is survived by
  • His wife of 50 years, Maedell Akin Shirley of Greensburg having united in marriage on May 10, 1967

  • A daughter: Teresa Jo Shirley of Greensburg;

  • A sister and brother-in-law: Sharon Fay & Bobby Blakeman of Greensburg, KY

  • Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Sheila Phillips of Greensburg, Herman & Eldora Akin of Springfield, Wallace and Linda Akin, and Buford Akin all of Greensburg, KY

  • Special friends: Brandy Williams, Bobby Durrett, and Justin Durrett all of Greensburg, KY

  • And a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends
Memorials are suggested to the Ebenezer Cemetery Fund or the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, which can be made at the funeral home.
